Elephants and their amazing emotions
Elephants and their amazing emotions - joy, grief, love, rage, exuberance
I wish to recall a real event that took place in Palghat during the early 1940s.
Kallekulangara temple , on the other bank of the Kalpathy River owned a female-elephant. She used to be taken to the nearby hill-forests most days, to help in logging wood. Sometimes the elephant and the mahouts would stay there two or three days together.
On one such occasion a wild elephant sighted this elephant and got very friendly. They made love, and the Kallekulangara elephant returned pregnant.
After more than a year, it delivered a calf, and WHO DO YOU THINK WAS THE VIP VISITOR TO SEE THE BABY/ NONE OTHER THAN HER PARAMOUR. now a regular husband. He refused to go back to the forest and stayed with her ever after. We used to see both elephants together, sometimes brought for a half-day bath in the river.
Elephants put us men to shame, when it comes to sentiments and emotions!
