Sighting of the eagle
Dear Jayasree,
It is part of the Indian tradition, that the sighting of the eagle ia a sign of prosperous times to come. For Makara Sankaranthi, at Sabarimalai temple, the Deeparadhana is performed only when the eagle is sighted in the sky. And, without fail, it has appeared year after year. So is the case before the commencement of the Petta Thullal. At Thirukazhikundram Hill temple - we went there after tonsuring Mohan's head at Tirupathy, in 1960 or so - an eagle pair come everyday at noon, and partake of food from the hands of the Poojary. Hundreds of devotees wait to watch this, and they have come unfailingly, every day. In Sakuna sastra, it is considered an auspicious sign, may be all this because Garuda, the carrier of Maha Vishnu, is an eagle. Good for all of you, may this bring prosperity for all of you, and apleasant days in your new home.
